FREE TOOL Β· NO SIGN-UP
This click to tweet generator creates a link that opens X (formerly Twitter) with your post already written, including a URL, a via mention and hashtags. It also builds a styled click-to-tweet box in HTML that you can paste into a blog post, landing page or email. Readers click once, check the text and post it, which makes sharing your best quotes and stats far easier. A live counter shows whether your post fits within 280 characters. Everything runs in your browser.
How to Use the Click to Tweet Generator
Fill in the fields and copy the link or the box.
Step 1: Enter or paste your input
Write the Tweet text, the words you want people to share. Keep it short so readers have room to add their own comment. Add the URL to include, usually the page the quote comes from, so shares link back to you.
Step 2: Choose your options
- Via @username adds “via @yourname” to the end of the post, so you get mentioned when people share. Type it with or without the @.
- Hashtags adds tags, separated by commas, such as SEO, Marketing. Do not add the # symbol.
- Button / box text sets the link text in the box. The default is “Click to Tweet”.
The counter above the link shows the estimated total length out of 280. URLs are counted at the fixed length X uses for links. It turns red if you go over.
Step 3: Copy, download or apply the result
Click Copy link for the plain share URL, which you can use behind any button, image or text link. Below it is a preview of the click-to-tweet box and its HTML code, with Copy and Download buttons. Paste the HTML into a Custom HTML block in WordPress, an HTML module in your email builder or directly into your page template.
How Click-to-Tweet Links Work
A click-to-tweet link is a URL that opens the X post composer with text already filled in. X calls these “Web Intents”. When a reader clicks, X opens in a new tab or the app, shows the prefilled post and waits for them to press Post. Nothing is posted automatically.
The link carries all the content in its query string. The generator URL-encodes the text so spaces, emoji, quotes and symbols survive. If the reader is not signed in, X asks them to sign in and then shows the composer.
Because the reader can edit before posting, the text is a suggestion. Most people post as is, but some add a comment, which is why leaving room helps.
Click-to-tweet links became popular on blogs through plugins and services, but you do not need a plugin or an account. The link is ordinary HTML that works anywhere links work: web pages, emails, PDFs, presentations and chat messages.
X Web Intent URL Parameters
The generator uses the standard intent URL https://twitter.com/intent/tweet, which still redirects to X and works on desktop and mobile. It supports these parameters:
| Parameter | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| text | The post text | text=Free%20SEO%20tools |
| url | A link added after the text | url=https%3A%2F%2Ffhseohub.com%2F |
| via | Adds “via @username” | via=fhseohub |
| hashtags | Comma-separated tags added as #tags | hashtags=SEO,Marketing |
All values are URL-encoded. The order on screen is the text, then the URL, then hashtags and the via mention, though X may arrange them slightly differently.
X shortens every link to a fixed length when counting characters, so a long URL does not eat your limit. The counter here allows a little extra for the space before it, plus the length of the via mention and each hashtag.
Writing Tweetable Quotes Within 280 Characters
X allows 280 characters for standard accounts. For click-to-tweet, aim much shorter: around 100 to 200 characters of text leaves room for the URL, hashtags, via and a reader’s comment.
What gets shared:
- A sharp takeaway from the article in one sentence.
- A specific figure from your own research, with the source on your page.
- A quotable opinion that people want to be seen agreeing with.
- A practical tip that stands alone without context.
Write it to make sense on its own, since followers will not have read your article. Avoid “this article” or “the above”. One or two hashtags is plenty; more makes the post look spammy and uses up space. Keep emoji to one if any, as they can count as two characters.
Check the length with the live counter, or with our Character Counter if you are drafting several options.
Click-to-Tweet Boxes in WordPress and Email
The box HTML is a simple block with an orange left border, a light background, the quote in bold text and a “Click to Tweet β” link. It uses inline styles only, so it works without any CSS file or plugin.
In WordPress, add a Custom HTML block where you want the box and paste the code. Use the block’s Preview tab to check it. Inline styles are kept in Custom HTML blocks. You can edit the colours in the code to match your theme.
In email, most builders (Mailchimp, Brevo, ConvertKit and others) have an HTML or code block. Paste the box there. Inline styles are what email clients expect, so the design should carry over. Always send a test, because some clients change padding or rounded corners.
The link uses target="_blank" to open X in a new tab, and rel="noopener nofollow", so the share link does not pass link equity or open a security gap.

Pro Tips and Mistakes to Avoid
Checklist of best practices
- Use one or two quotes per article, not ten.
- Make each quote self-contained.
- Always include the page URL.
- Test the link on desktop and mobile.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
- Over the limit. The counter turns red. Cut words or drop a hashtag.
- Adding # to hashtags. Leave it out; X adds it.
- Forgetting UTM tags. Add tracking to the URL first with the UTM Builder to see shares in analytics.
- Box looks plain in email. Some clients ignore rounded corners. That is fine; the link still works.
