Google Ads Budget Calculator: Free Online Tool

Results

FREE TOOL · NO SIGN-UP

This Google Ads budget calculator works backward from your goal. Enter how many conversions you want each month, your expected conversion rate and your average cost per click, and it shows the monthly budget, daily budget, clicks needed and cost per conversion. That gives you a realistic spend figure before you launch a campaign, instead of guessing a daily number and hoping. It supports several currencies and runs entirely in your browser.

How to Use the Google Ads Budget Calculator

Four numbers and a currency.

Step 1: Enter or paste your input

Fill in:

  • Target conversions per month: leads, sales, calls or sign-ups you want.
  • Conversion rate (%): the share of clicks that convert. Use your account history if you have it.
  • Average CPC: what you expect to pay per click. Keyword Planner’s top-of-page bid range is a reasonable starting point.

The calculator starts with an example of 60 conversions, 3.5% conversion rate and 1.80 CPC.

Step 2: Choose your options

Days in month is set to 30.4, the same figure Google uses to turn a daily budget into a monthly limit. Leave it unless you are planning a shorter campaign, such as a 14-day promotion. Pick your Currency: USD, EUR, GBP, PKR, INR or AED.

Step 3: Apply the result

With the example inputs you need about 1,714 clicks, for a monthly budget of about $3,085.71, a daily budget of about $101.50 and a cost per conversion of about $51.43. Enter the daily figure as your campaign budget in Google Ads, and check the cost per conversion against what a customer is worth to you.

How Google Ads Budgets Are Calculated

The calculation has three steps:

  1. Clicks needed = target conversions ÷ conversion rate. 60 ÷ 0.035 = 1,714 clicks.
  2. Monthly budget = clicks needed × average CPC. 1,714 × 1.80 ≈ 3,086.
  3. Daily budget = monthly budget ÷ 30.4 ≈ 101.50.

Cost per conversion, also called cost per acquisition (CPA), is the monthly budget divided by conversions. It also equals CPC ÷ conversion rate, which is why small changes in either input move the budget a lot. A CPC of 1.80 with a 3.5% conversion rate gives a CPA of about 51.43. Double the conversion rate to 7% and the CPA halves.

This is a planning model. Real campaigns vary week to week as CPCs change in the auction, conversion rates shift with seasons and Google’s bidding adjusts. Treat the result as a starting budget, then update it with real data after a few weeks.

CPC, Conversion Rate and CPA Inputs

The result is only as good as the inputs, so here is where to get them:

InputBest sourceIf you have no data
Average CPCYour Google Ads account, by campaign or keywordKeyword Planner bid ranges for your main keywords
Conversion rateYour account’s conversion data, or analytics for the landing pageA conservative guess, then adjust after launch
Target conversionsSales or lead goalsWork back from revenue targets

Use CPCs for the keywords you will actually bid on, in the location you will target. Broad, high-competition terms can cost several times more than specific long-tail keywords.

For conversion rate, be careful with optimistic numbers. A landing page that converts well from organic traffic may convert differently from paid search. If you are unsure, run the calculator twice with a low and a high rate to see the budget range. Our CPC Calculator and Conversion Rate Calculator help you work out both from past results.

Daily Budget, Monthly Cap and Overdelivery

Google Ads budgets are set per day, but Google manages them over the month. Two rules matter:

  • Daily overdelivery. On any single day, Google can spend up to twice your average daily budget when it sees more traffic opportunity.
  • Monthly charging limit. Over a calendar month, you will not be charged more than your average daily budget multiplied by 30.4. Google credits any overdelivery above that.

So a daily budget of 101.50 can spend up to 203 on a busy day, but no more than about 3,086 across the month. This is why the calculator uses 30.4 days.

If you pause campaigns or change the budget mid-month, the limit is adjusted. For fixed spend periods, you can also use campaign total budgets for shorter campaigns, where available.

If your budget is too low for your keywords, Google shows “Limited by budget”. That means you could get more clicks at current bids, so either raise the budget, narrow keywords and locations, or lower bids.

Budget Benchmarks by Industry

CPCs and conversion rates differ widely by industry, location and keyword type, so there is no reliable universal budget. A few patterns hold across most accounts:

  • Legal, insurance, finance and B2B software usually have high CPCs because a single customer is worth a lot.
  • Local services such as plumbers or dentists can have high CPCs but strong conversion rates from urgent searches.
  • Ecommerce often has lower CPCs but thinner margins, so return on ad spend matters more than CPA.
  • Branded keywords usually cost far less and convert better than generic ones.

Rather than copy someone else’s budget, base yours on your own target CPA. Work out how much a conversion is worth, then decide the maximum you can pay. If the calculator’s cost per conversion is higher than that, lower the target, raise the conversion rate with a better landing page, or choose cheaper keywords. Our ROAS Calculator helps for ecommerce.

Pro Tips and Mistakes to Avoid

Checklist of best practices

  • Use real CPC and conversion data when you have it.
  • Calculate a low, expected and high scenario.
  • Compare cost per conversion with your profit per customer.
  • Set conversion tracking up before launch so you can update the inputs.
  • Review budget after two to four weeks of data.

Common mistakes and quick fixes

  • Optimistic conversion rate. Inflates results. Start lower and adjust.
  • Splitting a small budget across many campaigns. Each one gets too few clicks to learn. Focus on fewer.
  • Ignoring overdelivery. Daily spend can double on some days. Plan cash flow on the monthly figure.
  • Forgetting location. CPCs in major cities can be far above national averages.

Spend enough to reach your conversion goal at a cost per conversion you can afford. Multiply target conversions by your expected cost per conversion, which is CPC divided by conversion rate. For example, 60 conversions at a 3.5% conversion rate and 1.80 CPC needs about 3,086 per month. Start smaller if you are testing.

Your Google Ads daily budget is an average. Google can spend up to twice that amount on a single day when traffic is high, but over a month you will not be charged more than the daily budget multiplied by 30.4. Any overspend above that limit is credited back to your account.

Calculate cost per acquisition by dividing total ad spend by the number of conversions. For example, 3,000 spent for 60 conversions gives a CPA of 50. Before launch, estimate it by dividing your average CPC by your conversion rate: 1.80 divided by 0.035 gives a CPA of about 51.43.

$20 a day can work for a small local campaign with specific keywords and low CPCs. At a 1.80 CPC that buys about 11 clicks a day, or roughly 338 a month, which at 3.5% is about 12 conversions. For competitive keywords or bigger goals, it will usually be too low.

Budget for Google Ads by starting with your goal. Decide how many conversions you need, estimate your conversion rate and CPC, and calculate clicks needed times CPC. A Google Ads budget calculator does this instantly. Then check that the cost per conversion is lower than what each customer is worth to your business.
