Google Maps Link Generator: Free Online Tool

Location by

Map link

Directions link
Embed iframe

FREE TOOL · NO SIGN-UP

This Google Maps link generator builds three things from one location: a shareable map link, a directions link that guides people to you, and iframe embed code for your website. Enter an address, a place name or exact latitude and longitude, pick a travel mode, and copy whichever you need. It is ideal for contact pages, event invites, booking confirmations, emails and chat messages where you want people to find a place in one tap. The links use Google’s official Maps URL format and open in the Google Maps app on phones. Nothing is sent to a server.

How to Use the Google Maps Link Generator

Choose how to describe the location, then copy the outputs.

Step 1: Enter or paste your input

Pick Location by:

  • Address / place: type a full address or a place name such as “Eiffel Tower, Paris” or your business name and city.
  • Latitude & longitude: enter exact coordinates, such as 48.8584 and 2.2945. Use this for places without a clear address, like trailheads, venue entrances or parking areas.

Step 2: Choose your options

  • Directions mode sets the travel type for the directions link: driving, walking, bicycling or transit.
  • Zoom (1 to 21) sets how close the embedded map starts. 15 shows streets around the place; higher numbers zoom in further.
  • Embed width and Embed height (px) set the size of the iframe. The default is 100% wide and 400px tall.

Step 3: Copy, download or apply the result

Use Copy link for the map link, Copy under Directions link for the route, and Copy or Download for the embed iframe. Open each link once to check it lands on the right place before sharing.

How Google Maps URLs Are Built

A Google Maps link is a URL that opens Google Maps at a specific place, search or route. Google offers an official, documented format called Maps URLs, which works on desktop browsers and opens the Google Maps app on Android and iOS when it is installed.

Every Maps URL starts with https://www.google.com/maps/ followed by an action and ?api=1. The api=1 part tells Google the link follows the official format. After that come parameters such as query for a place or destination for a route.

The generator URL-encodes your input, so commas, spaces and special characters in addresses do not break the link. For example, “Eiffel Tower, Paris” becomes Eiffel%20Tower%2C%20Paris.

These links are more reliable than copying a long URL from the address bar, which often contains session data, zoom levels and coordinates that can change. They are also cleaner than shortened links, which some email filters and messaging apps treat with suspicion.

Search, Directions and Coordinate URL Formats

Link typeFormatWhat it does
Map (search)google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Eiffel%20Tower%2C%20ParisShows the place, or search results if the query matches several places
Map (coordinates)google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=48.8584,2.2945Drops a pin at the exact point
Directionsgoogle.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=…&travelmode=drivingOpens directions to the destination from the user’s current location
Embedmaps.google.com/maps?q=…&z=15&output=embedDisplays a map inside an iframe on your page

A place name search works best when the name is unique, such as a business name with its city. If the query is vague, Google may show a list. Coordinates are always exact but show a pin rather than the business listing.

Maps URLs API Parameters Explained

The parameters used by this tool:

  • api=1: required. Marks the link as an official Maps URL.
  • query: the place to show, as an address, name or “lat, lng” coordinates.
  • destination: the end point for directions. The start point is left out, so Google uses the visitor’s current location, or asks them for one.
  • travelmode: driving, walking, bicycling or transit. If the mode is not available in that area, Google picks the nearest option.

Google’s Maps URLs also support extra parameters you can add by hand, such as origin for a fixed starting point, waypoints for stops along the way, and query_place_id to point to an exact business listing using its Place ID. Find your Place ID using the method described on our Google Review Link Generator page.

No API key is needed for any of these links.

Link vs Embed: Choosing the Right Option

Use a link when people need to act: in emails, SMS, WhatsApp messages, social posts, QR codes and booking confirmations. Links are tiny, open the Maps app on phones and give turn-by-turn directions.

Use an embed on your website’s contact or location page, so visitors can see where you are without leaving the page. The embed code includes loading="lazy" so the map only loads when someone scrolls to it, which helps page speed, and a title for screen readers.

Most contact pages benefit from both: an embedded map for context and a “Get directions” button using the directions link.

The embed uses Google’s simple embed format, which needs no API key. For advanced features like custom styling, multiple markers or analytics, you would need the Maps Embed API or JavaScript API with your own key. For a single location, the simple embed is enough.

To add the embed in WordPress, paste the iframe into a Custom HTML block.

Pro Tips and Mistakes to Avoid

Checklist of best practices

  • Use the business name plus city for the best place match.
  • Use coordinates for entrances, car parks or places without addresses.
  • Test links on a phone as well as a computer.
  • Add a “Get directions” button near your address on the contact page.
  • Keep NAP (name, address, phone) consistent with your Google Business Profile.

Common mistakes and quick fixes

  • Link shows a list of results. Add the city or postcode to make the query unique.
  • Coordinates reversed. Latitude comes first. If the pin lands in the ocean, swap them.
  • Embed too tall on mobile. Reduce height to 300px or use a width of 100%.
  • Map slows the page. Keep the lazy loading attribute and avoid more than one map per page.

Google Maps Link Generator: Free Online Tool FAQs

Create a Google Maps link by entering an address, place name or coordinates in a Google Maps link generator, which builds an official Maps URL like google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=your-place. Copy the link and share it anywhere. You can also find a place in Google Maps, tap Share and copy the link.

Yes, you can link directly to directions in Google Maps using a URL like google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=your-place&travelmode=driving. When someone opens it, Google Maps starts a route from their current location to your destination. This generator builds the directions link automatically with your chosen travel mode.

To share coordinates on Google Maps, enter the latitude and longitude in this generator and copy the map link. It looks like google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=48.8584,2.2945 and drops a pin at the exact spot. In the Google Maps app, you can also long-press a spot to see and copy its coordinates.

You can get a Google Maps URL by searching for a place in Google Maps and using the Share button, or by generating one here from an address or coordinates. Generated URLs use Google’s official format, so they are shorter, cleaner and more reliable than copying the long address bar URL.

To create a link to a map, decide what you want to show: a place, coordinates or directions. Enter the location in a Google Maps link generator, choose a travel mode if you need directions, and copy the link. For a map on your website, copy the embed iframe and paste it into your page.
