FREE TOOL · NO SIGN-UP
This keyword value calculator estimates what ranking for a keyword is worth in money. Enter the monthly search volume, the click-through rate you expect at your position, your conversion rate and what a conversion is worth, and it shows the monthly and yearly value, the visitors and conversions you can expect, and what the same traffic would cost in ads. It helps you decide which keywords deserve content, links and budget. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is saved.
How to Use the Keyword Value Calculator
Five numbers and a currency.
Step 1: Enter or paste your input
Fill in the fields:
- Monthly search volume from Google Keyword Planner, Search Console or your keyword tool.
- Expected CTR at your position (%), the share of searchers you expect to click your result.
- Conversion rate (%) for organic visitors to that page.
- Value per conversion, such as average order value or the value of a lead.
- Keyword CPC (optional) to compare with paid search.
The example uses 5,000 searches, 12% CTR, 2.5% conversion rate, 60 per conversion and a 2.10 CPC.
Step 2: Choose your options
Pick your Currency: USD, EUR, GBP, PKR, INR or AED. Leave CPC empty if you only want revenue value. Try different CTR figures to see how value changes between, say, position 1 and position 5.
Step 3: Apply the result
The example gives 600 visitors, 15 conversions and a monthly value of 900, which is 10,800 a year. The same 600 visits bought as ads would cost about 1,260 a month. Run each keyword on your shortlist, note the figures in a spreadsheet and sort by value.
How Keyword Value Is Estimated
Keyword value is the estimated revenue a keyword brings each month if you rank for it. The formula is search volume × CTR × conversion rate × value per conversion.
Step by step:
- Visitors = monthly search volume × CTR. 5,000 × 12% = 600.
- Conversions = visitors × conversion rate. 600 × 2.5% = 15.
- Monthly value = conversions × value per conversion. 15 × 60 = 900.
- Yearly value = monthly value × 12.
If you add a CPC, the tool also calculates equivalent ad cost: visitors × CPC. That is what you would pay Google Ads for the same number of clicks, and it is the figure most SEO tools call “traffic value”.
These are estimates. Search volume is rounded and seasonal, CTR depends on the search results layout, and conversion rate depends on how well your page matches intent. The figures are most useful for comparing keywords against each other, not for promising exact revenue.
Search Volume, CTR by Position and CPC
The calculator does not assume a CTR for each ranking position. You enter the CTR you expect, because real click rates vary a lot by query.
Things that change CTR:
- Position. Position 1 usually gets the largest share of clicks, and clicks fall steeply after the top three.
- SERP features. AI Overviews, ads, featured snippets, local packs, shopping results and video carousels push organic results down and take clicks.
- Brand searches. The brand’s own site can take most of the clicks.
- Your snippet. A clear title and description can lift CTR at the same position.
The best source is your own Search Console data: filter by queries where you rank in a given position and look at the actual CTR. Use our CTR Calculator to work it out from impressions and clicks.
For search volume, check more than one source and remember that volumes for very specific keywords are often underreported. For CPC, Keyword Planner’s bid range or your keyword tool’s CPC estimate works. High CPCs often mean advertisers find the keyword profitable, which is a useful signal on its own.
Traffic Value vs Revenue Value
There are two common ways to value a keyword, and they answer different questions.
| Traffic value | Revenue value | |
|---|---|---|
| Formula | Visitors × CPC | Visitors × conversion rate × value per conversion |
| Answers | What would this traffic cost in ads? | What will this traffic earn me? |
| Data needed | Volume, CTR, CPC | Volume, CTR, conversion rate, conversion value |
| In this tool | Equivalent ad cost / month | Monthly and yearly value |
Traffic value is useful for showing what organic rankings save compared with paid search, which is why agencies report it. But CPC reflects what other advertisers pay, not what you earn. Informational keywords can have low CPCs and still build an audience, while some keywords with high CPCs convert poorly for your business.
Revenue value is closer to reality for your site, because it uses your own conversion rate and value. When the two disagree a lot, trust revenue value for prioritizing, and use traffic value to explain SEO’s worth to stakeholders.
Prioritizing Keywords by Intent and Difficulty
Value alone does not tell you what to target first. Combine it with two more factors.
Intent. Commercial and transactional keywords (“buy”, “pricing”, “best”, “near me”) usually convert better than informational ones (“what is”, “how to”). Use a higher conversion rate for commercial terms and a lower one for informational terms, rather than one number for everything.
Difficulty. A keyword worth 900 a month that you could rank for in three months often beats one worth 3,000 that would take two years and a large link budget.
A simple approach: list keywords with value, difficulty and intent, then pick those with high value and low to medium difficulty first. Group closely related ones with the Keyword Grouper so one page can target several.

Pro Tips and Mistakes to Avoid
Checklist of best practices
- Use Search Console CTR data for realistic click rates.
- Use different conversion rates for different intents.
- Value a cluster of keywords together when one page will rank for all of them.
- Recalculate after ranking changes or SERP layout changes.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
- Assuming position 1 CTR for every keyword. Use a realistic target position.
- Using CPC as revenue. CPC is what advertisers pay. Use your own conversion value.
- Ignoring seasonality. Monthly volume is an average. Check trends before planning.
- Counting only the head term. Pages usually rank for many related queries, so total value can be higher.
