FREE TOOL · NO SIGN-UP
This social share button generator creates lightweight HTML share buttons for Facebook, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Pinterest, Reddit, Telegram and email. Enter your page URL and share text, pick the networks and a button style, and copy one small block of code. There are no plugins, external scripts or tracking pixels, so the buttons load fast and do not slow down your page. They work in WordPress, static sites, landing pages and any HTML template. Everything runs in your browser.
How to Use the Social Share Button Generator
Four choices, one block of code.
Step 1: Enter or paste your input
Enter the Page URL you want people to share, ideally the final canonical URL of the page. Add Share text / title, which is used where networks accept text: X, WhatsApp, Pinterest, Reddit, Telegram and the email subject. Facebook and LinkedIn take their text from the page’s Open Graph tags instead.
Step 2: Choose your options
- Networks: tick the ones you want. Facebook, X, LinkedIn and WhatsApp are on by default. Pinterest, Reddit, Telegram and Email are available too.
- Style: Pill buttons (fully rounded), Square (slightly rounded corners) or Outline (white with a coloured border).
- Labels: full network names as text, or short labels such as f, X, in, WA, P, r/, tg and @.
The preview updates as you change options and uses each network’s brand colour.
Step 3: Copy, download or apply the result
Copy the Share buttons HTML or download it as an HTML file. In WordPress, paste it into a Custom HTML block at the end of a post, or add it to a reusable block or theme template. Click each button on the live page to check the share window opens with the right URL.
How Share Buttons and Share URLs Work
A share button is a link to a social network’s share page, with your URL and text included in the address. When a reader clicks it, the network opens a share dialog with your page ready to post. The reader can add a comment and choose where to share it.
These links are called share URLs or share intents. Each network publishes one, such as facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u= for Facebook. The generator URL-encodes your page address and text, so special characters do not break the link.
Nothing is shared automatically, and no data is sent to the network until the reader clicks. That makes simple share links better for privacy than widget scripts, which can load tracking code on every page view.
The network then fetches your page to build the preview card. That is why the image, title and description people see come from your page’s Open Graph tags, not from the button itself. For Facebook and LinkedIn in particular, good Open Graph tags matter more than anything in the share link.
Share URL Formats for Each Network
| Network | Share URL format | Text used |
|---|---|---|
| facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=URL | Page’s Open Graph tags | |
| X | twitter.com/intent/tweet?url=URL&text=TEXT | Share text |
| linkedin.com/sharing/share-offsite/?url=URL | Page’s Open Graph tags | |
| wa.me/?text=TEXT%20URL | Share text plus URL | |
| pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=URL&description=TEXT | Share text as description | |
| reddit.com/submit?url=URL&title=TEXT | Share text as title | |
| Telegram | t.me/share/url?url=URL&text=TEXT | Share text |
| mailto:?subject=TEXT&body=URL | Subject and link |
The WhatsApp link opens the app on phones and WhatsApp Web on desktop, where the reader picks a chat. The email button opens the reader’s email app with a blank recipient. For Pinterest, the reader chooses an image from your page, so make sure your main image is large and clear.
Each button opens in a new tab with rel="noopener nofollow", which protects your page and tells search engines not to follow the share links.
Lightweight Buttons vs Plugin Widgets
Many share plugins and official widgets load JavaScript, fonts, icons and sometimes tracking scripts from third-party servers. That adds requests and weight to every page, and some set cookies before a reader does anything.
| These HTML buttons | Typical plugin or widget | |
|---|---|---|
| Extra requests | None | Several scripts, styles, icons |
| Tracking | None | Often included |
| Cookie consent impact | None until clicked | May need consent |
| Share counts | No | Sometimes |
| Customization | Edit the inline styles | Settings panel |
| Breaks if a network changes its script | No | Possible |
The generated buttons use only links and inline styles, so they add almost nothing to page weight and work even if JavaScript is off. The trade-off is that they do not show share counts, floating sidebars or analytics. If you need click data, track clicks on links with the share-buttons class in Google Tag Manager or add UTM parameters to the shared URL with the UTM Builder.
Open Graph Tags for Better Shared Previews
When someone shares your page, the network reads Open Graph (OG) tags in your page’s <head> to build the preview card. Without them, the network guesses, and often picks the wrong image or title.
The key tags:
og:title: the headline shown in the card.og:description: a short summary.og:image: the image, ideally 1200 × 630 pixels.og:url: the canonical URL.
X uses its own Twitter Card tags, falling back to OG tags. Generate both with our Open Graph Generator and Twitter Card Generator, and check how the card will look with the Social Share Preview.
If you change the image or title after a page was shared, networks may show the old version from cache. Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn’s Post Inspector let you refresh it.

Pro Tips and Mistakes to Avoid
Checklist of best practices
- Use the canonical page URL, not a URL with tracking or session parameters.
- Offer three to five networks your audience actually uses.
- Place buttons at the end of the content, and optionally near the top.
- Set Open Graph tags before promoting the page.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
- Wrong image on Facebook. Add or fix og:image and refresh with the Sharing Debugger.
- Every network ticked. Too many buttons dilute clicks. Trim to the main ones.
- Buttons share the wrong page. You used a template URL. Generate buttons per page, or use your CMS to insert the current URL.
- Editor strips styles. Use a Custom HTML block, not a visual text block.
